Atmel Introduces a New Flash C51 Microcontroller With CAN Controller for Cost-Effective Industrial and Automotive Applications
NANTES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2001--Atmel®
Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) announced today the expansion of its
CAN-based microcontroller family (CANary(TM)) by introducing the
T89C51CC02.
Retaining most of the existing T89C51CC01 features, the T89C51CC02
is a low pin count version with 16-Kbyte on-chip Flash program memory
and 4 message objects CAN controller. This new device is ideally
suited for cost-effective and high-volume applications in the
industrial and automotive markets and is fully compatible with the ISO
specifications 11898 (2.0A & 2.0B) for high speed and 11519-2 for low
speed serial data bus transmission.
The T89C51CC02 offers an advanced In-system Programming (ISP)
capability, via CAN bus or UART, to designers needing to develop
applications where product flexibility, programming security, short
time-to-market and low costs are required.
In addition the T89C51CC02 has a unique Flash architecture which
ensures a high security level during the ISP operations. Because the
2-Kbyte Flash boot memory and the program memory are physically
separate, the programmer can modify the Flash boot memory in parallel
mode only, avoiding any mishandling of its content during ISP
operations.
The T89C51CC02 supports existing CAN networks with 2.0A and 2.0B
nodes, as each of the 4 message objects may be used in one of these
two modes. Each message object is programmable for reception,
transmission or receive buffer (maximum 32 Bytes) and has its own
masking and filtering registers, which drastically reduces the host
processor load.
Philippe Malecha, marketing director for Customer and Application
Specific Products at Atmel Wireless and Microcontrollers Division,
said, ``we are now extending our CANary(TM) family with a new device
that provides cost-effective solutions for CAN protocol control with
flexible Flash memory. With In-system Programming capability, the
T89C51CC02 is an ideal solution as it allows application upgrade at
any stage of the product lifetime. This is a definitive step forward
for further innovative CAN multiplexing networks and answers
customers' needs to reduce time-to-market.''
An important feature in the T89C51CC02 is its internal clock
doubler. This allows it to achieve the maximum CAN bus data rate of
1Mbit per sec, using only an 8MHz crystal, thus drastically reducing
emitted electromagnetic interference signals that could disturb other
nearby subsystems.
A dual data pointer, 2-Kbyte user data EEPROM, an 8 channel 10-bit
ADC and a 512-byte RAM complete the C51 enhanced architecture of the
T89C51CC02.
A full set of support tools is also available. It includes
hardware emulator and software compiler/simulator, starter kit, Boot
Loader, all the required Application Protocol Interfaces (API) and an
Atmel proprietary Flash loader Software called ``FLIP.''
The T89C51CC02 is available in SOIC24, SOIC28, TSSOP28 or PLCC28
and in industrial temperature range (automotive temperature range is
under qualification). Samples are available now. Price is $5.20 each
for 10K pieces in industrial temperature range and SOIC28 package.
